Entourage Season 6: Episode 1- “Drive”

ents601drivePeople have the misconception that HBO’s Entourage is about the girls, the cameo’s and the “living large” feel of the series. Entourage is more of a tale about friendship, camaraderie and loyalty. As much as Ari Gold doesn’t seem that friendly, it’s his loyalty and his friendship with the gang that makes this series worth watching for.

Drive is a seemingly great title for this episode. With Vince learning how to drive since he’s more stable now due to his new movie directed by the great Martin Scorcese, the title also relates about how the rest of the gang starts to grow up and take charge of their lives. Learning how to drive is a sign of independence much like learning how to ride a bike since you were a kid so that just shows that this episode is about people starting to man up and grow some balls to do what they really want.

What’s so great about this episode is that finally Lloyd, Ari Gold’s assistant (or should I say slave), is finally asking for a promotion and the invincible Ari Gold seems to be threatened by it. He’s not threatened to have another competitor in the form of an agent, but he’s really just scared to lose the longest running assistant he has ever had.

E or Eric goes through a lot in this episode. He’s showing signs of great maturity even if he seems the most mature among Vince’s posse. He’s learning how to handle his life more and doesn’t rely much on Vince’s stardom for once. His greatest decision in this episode is one of the few things to watch out for this season so I could say I’m hooked once again for this series.

Vince is his usual self but this time he’s less arrogant and actually has a better attitude. He now values his career a lot more than he used to. But don’t worry he’s still the “Star” of the group and the confidence is still there. He’s just a bit more cautious now but he’s still as cocky as he used to be. In fact, in this episode one of his cocky comments about E’s descision actually slaps him in the face before the credits roll out.

Turtle is well, still Turtle. He just picked up right where he left off last season. Being in a relationship with “Meadow Soprano”, he’s also starting to mature and thinking of independence. But to be honest, I still feel he can’t do anything without Vince.

There’s not much to mention about Johnny Drama since he’s still the same old prick he used to be but I hope the writers make him more believable or more human. He may be a jerk, but all jerks have a soft side to them and I think Drama needs a bit more stretching out to his character.

All in all, the series doesn’t focus much on each character but more on the whole situation the group is in. Everybody seems stable (except for Turtle) so, the group seems to have less time hanging out with each other leading them to think independently of themselves. So, will this season be the end of the group as one or will their thoughts of indepence lead to run into each other’s company more than they really should?

I’m sticking around to find out.
